History of the Fund
Lynn Shelton, President of the Wildlife Rescue League in 2002, set up The Babiga Fund to pay for medical costs associated with the veterinary treatment of injured wildlife. The Fund was named after Dr. Anne Hiss' beloved squirrel Babiga in recognition of Dr. Hiss' volunteer veterinary work for the Wildlife Rescue League's wildlife rehabilitators. Dr. Hiss has performed the accounting and administrative work for the Babiga Fund since its inception.
In 2007, the Wildlife Rescue League decided to officially hand over the Fund to Dr. Hiss to administer.
The majority of animals receiving medical care have been treated at Town and Country Animal Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia.
